Buddies from River Valley Primary School, Singapore
Late August was a busy time for our 5th graders as well as their teachers.
Grade 4 students from River Valley Primary School in Singapore visited Santa Laurensia from 25 to 28 August, so students and teachers were busy preparing for that visit the week before. Both countries’ national anthems opened the Monday Morning Ceremony that day with the singing of “Majulah Singapura” and “Indonesia Raya.” Later, Grade 5students were chosen to accompany 38 students from RVPS and later visit them in Singapore in March 2009. Other students will be chosen for the same exchange in November, so perhaps at that time YOU will be the ones!
Four teachers also came from Singapore to share their knowledge and teaching methods to Santa Laurensia Elementary teachers. Ms. Tan Hui Ping, Ms. Joanne Lee, Mr. Matthew Chong, and Mr. Jarrod Chee showed how to solve the mathematics using drawing methods while the students made handicrafts from newspaper pulp and then colored them with water paints.
The group also went to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah to visit the Museum of Indonesia and Culture. Moreover, their excitement was complete by a traditional performance by Reog Ponorogo from East Java. So much to share, so much fun! (Ms. Yanti & Ms. Irene)
