Another Silver Medal from Ukraine

Again, we have outstanding students who represented Indonesia in the 15^th International Conference of Young Scientists (ICYS) that was held in Chernivtsi, Ukraine on 18-23 April 2008. In the hands of our young scientists: Terrenz Kelly Tjong (XII IPA 2) & Lynn Kaat Kurniawan (XII IPA 1), they chose ecology research: “The Effect of Mangosteen Peel Extract on the Fertility of Male White Mouse”, to reduce the fertility of the male white mice. This was the second year in which students of Santa Laurensia joined this International competition and brought the silver medal.

The ICYS is a special type of individual competition, in physics, mathematics, computer science and ecology for 14 to 18 year-old secondary school students. Here, Terrenz (who represented it in front of the ICYS judges at Chernivtsi-Ukraine) & Lynn had to do research work, present and discuss their own results, formulate research reports, and give presentation in foreign language (English). With their hardwork and support from the science teachers, this achieved a prestigious medal among young scientists. Congratulations to Terrenz & Lynn! (Ms. Irene)
