Singapore Educational Trip 2008

It was a busy Monday morning at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on March 24th 2008 because 37 of grade 8 students and 4 teachers of Santa Laurensia Junior High School were gathering at terminal 2E heading to Singapore on Santa Laurensia Educational Trip 2008. This trip took 6 days and 5 nights from March 24th – March 29th visiting some educational objects in Singapore like Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, National Library, Singapore Science Center, Asian Civilization Museum, Newater, Health Zone and Chinatown Heritage Museum. There were also students’ immersions program with Dunman Secondary School and Tanjong Katong Secondary School where 2 groups of 18 and 19 students spent 3 days at Dunman or Tanjong Katong Secondary school to join and experience the class lessons and also school Co Curricular Activity (CCA).

There were so many new experiences and lessons were learned during their stay in Singapore. Some examples are the students were taught how to use public transport in Singapore (MRT and Bus), they also saw the production process of water recycle in Newater, and how physical fitness affects the muscle building and our health, some of science facts and demonstration kit in Singapore Science Center. In School immersion program the students were not just able to observe but also involve in Singapore school activities in Dunman and Tanjong Katong where lots of experience were gained from this program.

Six days felt so short when it came to the last day. Departing from Changi International Airport on Saturday Night, the students headed back to Indonesia with lot of stories, memories, new experiences, new cultures and new friends to be shared with parents, family and friends at home.
