HOW TO BECOME OUTBOUND TOUR LEADER, A TRIP TO CHINA

SMK Tour to CHINA

From February 22 – 27, 2008 Year XII students of Santa Laurensia Vocational High School went to China. In China we visited Beijing, Shenzhen and Guangzhou.

In Santa Laurensia Tourism Vocational, we designed our curriculum for guiding in year XII, our students learn how to become outbound tour leader. If we talk about outbound tour, China becomes one of the most popular tourists’ destinations nowadays, and our school prepares their students to be ready and match with the trend of International Tourism.

Since this is an educational tour, we really train our students how to become outbound tour leader. Thus, students started their preparation with a deeper knowledge of China: general information of places of interest like Tian An Men Square and Great Wall; travel documents preparation, such as passport, visa and tickets; and E/D card preparation either for Indonesia and China. Afterward, on the departure day Tour Leader must check-in to airline counter and handling clients. When we arrived at destination, students learned how to introduce local guide to clients, check-in to hotel until meals arrangement.

Other perspectives of our outbound educational tour are to compare a task of real guide in another country with students’ task as inbound tour guide in Indonesia, practiced their mandarin language and ideas about a big country like China. (HDJ)
