LEARNING SUPPORT CENTER

School year 2007-2008 is marked by the establishment of a Learning Support Center in the Elementary Department (SD) of Santa Laurensia. The Learning Support Center was set up to help students who find difficulty keeping up with the regular pace of the class. The center, headed by veteran teacher,Ms. Josephine caters to grades one and two students for this year.

First and second grade students who find difficulty in reading, writing and basic estimation/counting (math) will be observed by Ms. Josephine for a certain period to pinpoint where the problem lies, after which she makes recommendations to be followed by teachers, parents to help the child succeed. Recommendations range from reinforcing not fully formed study habits to one-on-one instruction by Ms. Josephine herself in a specially designated room.

Through this program, it is hoped that every student fully grasps basic concepts and reach grade-level skill that will make each confident and happy to be in school. This will ease anxiety of certain students who are confused with certain parts of the lesson because they know there is nothing to be afraid of. “Doing what is best to make a child succeed” is the center’s motto, quips Ms. Josephine.
