MATH CORNER
Making math both fun and sensible is one of the primary responsibilities that teachers have to their students. To that end, we have created the Math Corner, which gives elementary students the opportunity to explore math concepts outside of the classroom. Here, students can see how math operates in every day life and other contexts, and where they frequently make surprising connections between every day events and math principles.
The main thing that we want to show students is that exploring their world can be both fun and interesting, especially when these discoveries are tied to math concepts. Through Math Corner, the students of Santa Laurensia Elementary School are expected to develop skills such as thinking creatively and analytically by exploring various possibilities through deductive reasoning and problem solving skills (number sense, visualization and generalization).
To keep both students and parents informed about the activities of the Math Corner, we have placed two boards in the entry way of the elementary school. These activity boards are filled with math activities involving grades 1 to 6 students. Activities include HIDATO Logic Games, Number in Our Life, How Close You Are. The activity board will be updated every 1 to 2 weeks. (Mr. Theja)
